Our dear Sweet Adeline, Virginia Hosford, passed away March 9th, after a long battle with cancer.  Virginia was always filled with marvelous energy and love for life!

Back in 2006, Virginia was interviewed about “What She Liked Best” about Sweet Adelines.  It’s a precious clip as she says over and over …” I like BEST whatever it is that I’m doing at the moment” – be in singing, or visiting, or going to contest, or doing chorus work, or meeting International people, or emceeing, or working with choruses in the region.  As she spoke, Virginia’s eyes sparkled more and more as she thought of something else she’d loved taking part in or doing with Sweet Adelines.   That’s the way she lived every day – always looking for ways to make the next day even better than the day before and doing her best at whatever she was doing at the moment.

Quotes from around the region:

·         Virginia was the poster woman for Sweet Adeline's. She always had the good of the organization first! A very classy lady with a smile for everyone and a desire to promote barbershop music. When she got involved in a project it was never half way. I always admired the way she and Don were so supportive of each other. Don was proud of Virginia and everything she did for the region, her chorus, and the organization in general.  It was so evident that they loved each other very much. Virginia was one who thanked people and recognized people's contributions. I think she is the perfect example of what we look for when we award the Rose Achievement Award.  We have lost a dear friend and amazing Sweet Adeline. - Candy

·         I couldn’t have said it better – a wonderful woman who will always have a special place in my heart and the hearts of many others.  – Kris

·         Candy said it beautifully, a fitting tribute to a beautiful woman.  How sad it is to keep losing friends that have shaped our lives.  Sweet Adelines is indeed an aging population and many have left us here to keep the music flowing which is such an important part of our very beings.  Let's hope that there will really be a giant SA chorus in heaven. – Cathy

·         It breaks my heart that Virginia has lost her fight with Cancer.  From the first moment I met Virginia, I felt that we were soul-mates.  She had that effect on many people I'm sure.  I always knew that I could rely on her if I needed her and I did call her often.  I'll never forget the day that I brought over the car load of Regent files.  She was not even phased by them...she just laughed...in fact we laughed until we cried.  When she sent them on to the next person they were all organized and much more manageable.  I loved Virginia so and totally agree that she was the ideal Sweet Adeline. – Patty

·         We all loved her so much and the world is a better place for her being in it. - Jan

·         Amazing she was… as I listened to her talking, laughing and reminiscing about Sweet Adeline’s, neighbors and loved ones. I wish we could bottle her energy and positive attitude. She spoke of how enriched her life was. The memories she had of Sweet Adeline’s is something I wish we could all have experienced and appreciate. Listening to her a week ago, has me full of pride that I have been blessed not only to have found Sweet Adelines, but to have experienced the friendship of such an amazing lady.   Every day was a good day…as Virginia would say She Owned The Day -   Angie

Virginia joined Sweet Adelines and sang bass with the Hood River Valley Chorus starting in 1984.  She was there for her chorus in many, many roles over the years – president, show chair, valentines, fundraisers, singer, emcee, leader, guide and mentor.  She was invited to become the ECHO editor for Region 24 which then started her regional work serving on committees, joining the regional board, serving as our last Regent, and then working with Sweet Adelines International to convert the regions to the management team style of leadership and serving as our first Team Coordinator. During her Sweet Adeline years, she attended many Regional and International contests and educational events and was a big supporter of the Young Singers Foundation donating her lovely cross-stitch items for the auctions.  Virginia was always there to encourage women to get involved and to spread the magic of this sisterhood to all women!
